AI-Enabled Elections Workshop

The Nostera Republic case study places participants in the role of newly appointed officials at the Republic of Nostera's National Electoral Commission (NEC), a fictional jurisdiction created for training purposes. Nostera's electoral framework was recently updated in 2025, introducing key changes such as lowering the voting age from 21 to 18, shortening the candidate nomination window from 90 to 60 days, and extending polling hours to 6 p.m. With an election imminent, participants must rapidly apply AI tools to accomplish critical pre-election tasks spanning policy analysis, community relations, poll worker training and media engagement. The exercise draws on Microsoft's guidance for responsible AI use in elections, emphasizing human oversight, data privacy and the importance of clear institutional AI policies.
