Equipping Fellows with the foundation for election administration careers

The MODL Graduate Fellowship is offered through the Marvin Andrews and Jane Morris Local Government Fellowship, a two-year program supporting students pursuing a Master of Public Administration or Master of Public Policy. One Marvin/Morris Fellow is placed in MODL for one year and Maricopa or Pinal County Elections for the second-year while completing their degree. The Fellow is a part of a larger Cohort of Local Government Fellows who meet weekly during their first semester, bi-weekly during their second semester and for check-ins their second year with the ASU Local Government Fellowship Director.

MODL Fellowship Program Structure and Opportunities

  • Work closely with our Executive Director Bill Gates at the ASU Downtown Phoenix Campus to conduct research on elections and misinformation, organize conferences of elections officials and experts and manage MODL’s social media platforms.
  • In county elections offices, MODL Fellows learn the mechanics of running elections and how elections offices interact with other departments in county government through a rotation program.
  • Attend local government conferences such as the Arizona City/County Management Association Winter Conference and the International City/County Management Association Conference
  • Receive one-on-one mentorship with a seasoned practitioner throughout their journey at ASU.
  • Develop a robust professional network that supports long-term leadership and career advancement in election administration and public service
